Blackburn-based The Reel Envelope Company only opened its doors for business last month and from a complete standing-start has achieved over £100k in sales in its first month of trading.
In what is well-regarded as the quietest business period in the year (due to the number of companies that operate a summer shut down) this performance has bucked all expectations.
The achievement is even more notable when it’s taken into consideration that this production has come solely from C5 flexo work, from only one of the W & D 102’s (as the other machines are still being commissioned).
Trevor Whittaker, Managing Director of the company, added these comments;
“We are extremely proud of what we’ve achieved in our first four weeks of operation. We always knew that launching in the summer would be tough, but to achieve this level of sales from a complete standstill is phenomenal.

In addition to the sales success of the first month the company also gained ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation, plus FSC and PEFC status.
Mark Farrimond, Group CEO, highlighted the next period of development for The Reel Envelope Company;
“This first month was crucial for us to get the momentum going with production. The next 8 weeks will see us bring on the other machines, in particular our Muller Martini NT’s, which will enable us to offer litho pre-print in addition to the flexo print from our W & D’s.
Combined with our GMG fogra colour certification, making us the only reel to reel envelope manufacturing company in the UK able to offer this level and accuracy of colour management, we will be well-placed to deliver the highest possible quality of envelope manufacturing solutions to companies across the UK and Europe.”
